In his poem Is 5, e e cummings wrote about the romantic effect of the Notre Dame Cathedral:

Notre-Dame, une fin d’après-midi 1902
Paris; this April sunset completely utters
utters serenely silently a cathedral
before whose upward lean magnificent face
the street turn young with rain.
